IT support for solicitors — built around SRA Rule 6, not bolted on.

Managed IT for UK law firms balancing SRA compliance, matter confidentiality and a partner who still thinks email is broken if it's slow. Practice-management systems supported, encryption journaled, and a recent 14-partner Trafford firm living proof it works.

The short version.

  • SRA Rule 6
  • Clio & LEAP
  • Actionstep
  • ProClaim & Tikit
  • Matter SharePoint
  • Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Lexcel & CQS

Inology IT supports UK law firms and solicitors across Greater Manchester with managed IT mapped to SRA Code of Conduct Rule 6, not bolted on after the fact. We support the practice-management stack lawyers actually use — Clio, LEAP, Actionstep, ProClaim, Tikit, Quill — alongside matter-aware SharePoint with retention labels, legal hold and information barriers between conveyancing, litigation and family teams. Cyber Essentials Plus certification is delivered with a fixed-fee remediation pack, evidence kept live for Lexcel, CQS and PII renewals, and out-of-hours cover sized to your completion-day pattern.

Why we're a fit

What IT problems do UK law firms and solicitors actually face?

01

Practice-management systems treated as an afterthought

Most MSPs can spell 'LEAP' but couldn't tell you the difference between a workflow trigger and a precedent template. We've integrated PMS systems with M365, mail journaling, document automation and time-recording across firms from sole-practitioners to 50 partners.

02

Matter confidentiality without information barriers

If your conveyancing team and litigation team can read each other's matters, you have an SRA exposure. Information barriers in SharePoint and Teams, properly configured, prevent this — without making file-sharing a 14-step process.

03

Email that 'works' but doesn't journal

When a complaint goes to the Legal Ombudsman or SRA, you need a defensible audit trail of every communication. Compliance journaling captures inbound and outbound mail to immutable storage. Most firms only discover they don't have it when it's too late.

04

Cyber Essentials done in a panic for a tender

Lender panel applications, conveyancing accreditation (CQS), large corporate clients — they all want CE+ now. We've taken multiple firms through certification; we know the gaps that catch lawyers (unsupported case-management servers, generic admin accounts, mobile devices without remote wipe).

Compliance & regulation

Which compliance standards does Inology support for law firms?

We're not auditors and we don't pretend to be — but we know which IT-side evidence each of these standards expects, and we keep it ready.

  • SRA Code of Conduct & Standards (Rule 6, Rule 8.1)
  • Cyber Essentials & Cyber Essentials Plus
  • ISO 27001 alignment (controls mapped to your ISMS)
  • UK GDPR & ICO breach reporting playbooks
  • Lexcel and CQS technical evidence packs
  • PII insurer questionnaire support

Common questions

Legal IT support — frequently asked questions.

Do you understand practice-management systems, or just 'support email'?

We integrate with PMS systems weekly. Clio, LEAP, Actionstep, ProClaim, Tikit, Quill — we've configured the M365 integrations, sorted the document-automation links, and dealt with the inevitable 'it stopped syncing' issues. We won't pretend to be your PMS vendor's first-line support, but we know enough to triage and escalate sensibly.

What does SRA-compliant IT actually mean?

Three big things. Confidentiality (Rule 6) — proper access controls, information barriers, encryption. Communication evidence (Rule 8.1) — journaled email, recorded calls where appropriate, retention policies. Resilience — backups tested, DR documented, breach playbook ready. We map our managed-service deliverables to each of these explicitly so you can show your COLP what you're paying for.

Can you get us through Cyber Essentials Plus?

Yes — we've taken multiple firms through CE+. Typical timeline 8–12 weeks from engagement to certificate. The recurring sticking points for law firms are: unsupported case-management servers, mobile devices without remote wipe, and generic admin accounts on the partner's PC. We have a standard remediation pack for each.

How do you handle our PII insurance renewal?

We complete the IT-related sections of the questionnaire for you (we know the trick questions). After CE+ certification most insurers offer 10–25% off premium — we'll prompt your broker to re-quote ahead of renewal. We also keep an evidence pack live so when underwriters ask follow-up questions, we have answers within 24 hours.

What about out-of-hours support for completion days?

Two options. Complete tier (£85/user) includes 24/7 SOC for security incidents only. For full IT support out-of-hours — partner can't access a file at 7pm Friday, file server hangs Saturday morning — that's our Out-of-Hours bolt-on: £250/month plus £500 per 5-hour block used. Most firms add it after their first weekend incident.

Do you support information barriers between matter teams?

Yes. Conveyancing isolated from litigation, family from commercial, partners from associates where required. Configured in Entra ID with SharePoint and Teams policies, audited monthly. We document the barrier matrix so when the SRA visits you can show them what's actually enforced versus what's policy on paper.

Can you migrate us off our on-prem case-management server?

Almost certainly. We've migrated firms from on-prem SOS Connect, Tikit, Eclipse Proclaim and various others to cloud-hosted equivalents. The sequence matters — we do mail and document storage first (lowest risk), then PMS in a planned change window. Typical full migration 8–14 weeks for a 20-fee-earner firm.

What happens if there's a breach?

We have a documented breach playbook for legal clients. First 30 minutes: contain, isolate, preserve evidence. First 4 hours: scope assessment, regulatory clock starts (72 hours for GDPR, 24 hours for SRA depending on severity). We coordinate with your COLP, your PII broker and your forensic provider. Speed matters — we run tabletop exercises annually so your senior team isn't learning the playbook on the day.
